Philadelphia - Reading Terminal Market

Visiting Philly and can't decide where to eat? Then head on over to the Reading Terminal Market.

The Reading Terminal Market has 76 merchants currently listed on their website.  This is an indoor, bustling market with more food and merchandise options than you can fathom.  You can find fresh options to prepare meals or dine at one of the many restaurants.

The best thing I ate in Philly?  The carrot cake with chocolate chips from Termini Bros.  I kid you not...the best.  I paid my $5 for the lovely little cake after we ate lunch inside, then sat and enjoyed every bite outside.  It's about the size of a big cupcake and can be shared, but why not get your own?

An important note: there is limited seating inside the market.  If you are there during the busy breakfast or lunch rush, be prepared to do a bit of stalking for a seat.  The aisles get very busy, so if you are at the market with a stroller, you'll need to do some fancy maneuvering to get around without running over a lot of feet on your way. Pushing a double stroller through the market during lunch may give you nightmares, so reconsider your visit time or plan to divide and conquer when you get there.

You may want to peruse the merchants online to get an idea of what you are looking for, then split up and pick a meeting spot once everyone in your group has made their purchases.  There is an outdoor seating area kitty corner from one of the main entrances - you'll find benches and some mosaic art pieces to admire.  If the weather is nice, consider having someone save a bench outside so you can relax and enjoy your purchases in the fresh air, rather than hurriedly eating while being watched by someone waiting for your seat inside.

The market is open Monday - Sunday from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.  Plan for a minimum of 1 hour, although if you want to eat and do a bit of shopping, you'll want to allow for more time. There is a public restroom in the back corner in case you need the facilities.
